The tutorial began by talking about my tape and the great weight that it seems to betray and that it was reminiscent of Antoni Gaudi’s cathedral in Barcelona and the way in which to find the stress points on the arches, Gaudi hung string and attached weights to them, creating the shape for the supporting structure upside down.

Also mentioned was that the frame structure for my card model of my sculpture was reminiscent of air route maps, the way the arcs are formed to land back at the same two points.
One of the main points mentioned was the element of ‘stress’ in my work. Nothing seems easy, everything is forced into doing things it doesn’t seem to want to do. The is an obvious amount of effort shown, from the regimented clock pieces to the more fluid tape . Secondly mentioned was the accidental nature of my progression, where new ideas have sprung up from other places such as the tape piece that came out of making the lines for the painting and my process of transforming things from 2d to 3d and back, again forcing them into different levels of dimensionality.
